A Unique frequency

It's a skill to know what to say to people, to get the best from them, to be able to tune into their energy and understand what they are seeking to express. It's a wonderful gift to share that skill with others - to understand who they are being and to have the fullest picture of what they are communicating.

This October, during my visit to Melbourne, I got to appreciate the work that my friend Karen is doing with autistic children. I'm thrilled by her dedication to assist these children in whatever way she can. And I'm delighted to work with her in developing her skills and abilities around this. For I know that by consciously exploring the realm of communication together, we gain insight into how we can collectively communicate, in ways that we are as yet unable to fully appreciate.

Here then is Karen's story of her own journey, of insights and realisations.

"When I set off to attend a four day workshop with Santari, I deliberately went with very little expectation.  I truly wanted to leave the days open to evolve naturally without my controlling it on any level.  Probably the only desire I had was to gain some insight into what my future work with autistic children would be.

During the first day I felt some weight of heaviness and burden of some issues from my past.  I was concerned that life was passing me by and the human side of me was wondering what I had achieved.  As I walked into the energy of the space and the people, I immediately felt connection to the Universal consciousness that brings us all together. By the first night, the burden had completely left me as I realized that my life of trauma and suffering was not suffering at all: indeed each event had been an exaltation of who I had been as a human being.  Each event had given me an opportunity to exemplify all the wonderful traits that are me, such as strength, power, courage, love, compassion, forgiveness and intellect.  What an extraordinary gift these events had truly been, for without them I would not have had the opportunity to know who I truly was in my own “beingness”.

As I was led to explore this further, I allowed my voice to soar and I sang what I was experiencing.  In that moment, I felt the texture of the sound and knew that each and every one of us vibrates to a unique sound frequency.  I am generally quite shy, so for me to sing in my true voice for all to hear was such a shift for me .... I am no longer afraid to use my voice .... in fact I believe my voice is a gift, and the song is an expression of my unique and magnificent frequency!

As the days evolved and each epiphany became illuminated, I felt more and more sure that there was something in the texture of sound and my discovery of my voice that would assist me in working with children with autism.  Each idea built upon the next. My purpose and how I would work with these children and their parents is now so much clearer.

I have since completed my first talk addressing the “gift of autism” and how to work with the children in a different and more empowered way.  Also, I had been searching for a research project  to complete my Masters in Education, and the consultancy that has evolved is the topic for this project.

I’ve since had a number of experiences with the children (in my work as a teacher) since attending the workshop.  The most poignant was just last week.  I was doing yard duty at school with the “high needs” children (these kids are seemingly very low functioning and have extreme medical needs.  They will
rarely look at you and don’t seem to connect at all to others).  To fill the time I sang Christmas Carols and my voice became louder and louder. I started to play with the songs and sounds, and felt such a strength and resonance in my voice.   Two of the children turned their faces to look at me and smiled.  They continued to peer at me as I continued to sing.  When I stopped singing, they motioned for me to keep singing ... I shouldn’t have been amazed, but I was!  As I sang, I had found their frequency and - more to the point - they found me.  I know I have something in this and I am so excited to explore it further.

By connecting with all children, we are connecting to their potential and by doing so we bring out their brilliant magnificence!  This brings beauty, harmony and even more potential to the world!"
