My friend, Triona, was delightfully Irish. In fact, as we sat down to watch an Irish rugby game against the All-Blacks on TV, you could tell that she was wonderfully patriotic. Alas, the Irish team suffered a heavy loss, with both sides giving a lackluster performance, and, after the game, I could tell that she was visibly shaken by the result. She had been so sure of an Irish victory. Then she told me that one of her relations had told her to be on the shoulder of the leading Irish scorer, to assist him in making the tries. It's a skill to know what to say to people, to get the best from them, to be able to tune into their energy and understand what they are seeking to express. It's a wonderful gift to share that skill with others - to understand who they are being and to have the fullest picture of what they are communicating. This October, during my visit to Melbourne, I got to appreciate the work that my friend Karen is doing with autistic children. I'm thrilled by her dedication to assist these children in whatever way she can. And I'm delighted to work with her in developing her skills and abilities around this. For I know that by consciously exploring the realm of communication together, we gain insight into how we can collectively communicate, in ways that we are as yet unable to fully appreciate.
